The Toyota RAV4 is an efficient and durable midsize SUV. With its all-wheel drive capability and great fuel economy, you can hit the trails for some off-roading or move lots of cargo around town before it needs to stop and fill up.
It’s able to get up to an EPA-estimated 23 MPG city and 30 MPG highway, making it an Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle II (ULEV-II). With this level of fuel economy and its 15.9-gallon fuel tank, it’s a great option for long road trips.
Under the hood, it’s powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that’s capable of producing up to 176 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. You’ll get an efficient performance out of the engine too with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) giving it smarter and cleaner production.
Toyota RAV4 Fuel Saving Features
On top of the efficient valve train and it’s smart VVT-i design, the Toyota RAV4 has lots of fuel saving features to help you get the most out of that fuel economy.
A 6-speed Electronically Controlled automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) works with the engine. It uses technology to get precise timing for gear shifts and aid both the engine and transmission to get better efficiency.
There’s also features at your fingertips to give you more control over the drive when you’re behind the wheel. Driver-selectable mode switches let you manually adjust the drivetrain between Eco and Sport modes, plus steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters give you the freedom to manually control the gear shifting without a clutch.
Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
The Toyota RAV4 is also available as a hybrid for even greater fuel economy. It runs on a 2.5L 4-cylinder hybrid engine with VVT-i that gets 194 net system horsepower. With an Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT), its able to get up to an EPA-estimated 34 MPG city and 30 MPG highway, making it a Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV).
For added control over your drive, it adds EV mode to your driver selectable modes. Plus, it’s just as capable of getting you through storms or tough terrain with Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive with intelligence (AWD-i). The electric motor detects when you need more traction and sends extra torque to the rear wheels.
All throughout your drive, you can monitor your performance through the Hybrid Energy Monitor on your dashboard and the Hybrid Gauge Cluster in front of your steering wheel. Both give you real time information on your miles per gallon and hybrid battery.
