Toyota Camry Powertrain and Fuel Economy
The Toyota Camry offers two engines, each of which has different performance specs and MPG numbers.
- 2.5L Dynamic Force I-4 Engine
If you want to fully maximize your fuel efficiency, we recommend the standard 2.5L Dynamic Force I-4 engine that delivers 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. This is the engine that can help you reach that maximum EPA-estimated
- 3.5L V6 Engine:
However, if you want an even more thrilling performance in your Camry, you have the option to upgrade to the 3.5L V6 engine that generates 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, you'll get and EPA-estimated 22 MPG city and 32 MPG highway.1
Both engines include selectable drive modes that further optimize your performance or efficiency. These modes are Normal, ECO, and Sport.
If you need a bit of a boost, you can drive in Sport mode and enjoy improved acceleration and steering responsiveness. However, if you need to conserve fuel, you can switch into ECO mode, which will adjust your throttle input and A/C to improve your MPG capabilities.
Toyota Camry Hybrid MPG
For Camry lovers who really want to improve their fuel economy while decreasing carbon emissions, there's also a hybrid version that pushes your MPG to an EPA-estimated 51 city and 53 highway.1
Don't be fooled by its impressive fuel economy, the Toyota Camry Hybrid is also incredibly powerful. In fact, this model pairs a 2.5L Dynamic Force I-4 engine with an electric motor to create a power output of 205 horsepower combined.
One of the ways its able to achieve such a high fuel economy is by utilizing an Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT).
The E-CVT does away with the gears found in a traditional automatic transmission. Instead, it improves overall performance and efficiency by providing nearly infinite shift points between the upper and lower limits.
The Toyota Camry Hybrid also gives you a selectable drive mode feature, but it adds an additional option: EV.
While ECO mode will help to improve your hybrid fuel economy, EV mode switches your sedan into a fully electric mode. This allows it to drive without dipping in to the gas tank for up to a half mile.
Of course, if you're feeling adventurous, you'll have the option to switch the Camry Hybrid into Sport Mode as well.
