2018 Tundra: Interior Specs & Features
This year, the 2018 Tundra has done away with the 3-seat Regular Cab. Every model is now a Double Cab or CrewMax configuration, giving the Tundra room to seat five or six people across two rows of seats, depending on whether you choose the standard front bench seat or the available bucket seats.
The seats themselves are comfortable and very roomy. You'll get 42.5 inches of legroom in the front-row seats. In the Double Cab, rear legroom measures 34.7 inches, which is enough to seat most adults. If you want to give your rear passengers room to spread out, however, opt for the CrewMax configuration. Rear legroom there measures an impressive 42.3 inches-nearly as spacious as the front seats.
A Powerful Performance
Under the hood of the Toyota Tundra, you'll find a base 4.6L V8 engine that offers up to 310 horsepower and 327 lb-ft of torque, delivered via a 6-speed automatic transmission. That's plenty of power, but the available 5.7L V8 engine is better for towing and hauling. It provides up to 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque.
All Tundras come standard with an automatic limited-slip differential, which individually applies brakes to wheels with no traction. It won't cut engine power, giving you more control and transferring power to where it has the most effect. On Tundras with the 5.7L V8 engine, the rear differential is fit with a huge 10.5-inch ring gear, which is helpful for transferring all the torque to the ground.
Towing with the Tundra
Just how much can you move with the 2018 Tundra? When it comes to towing, with the larger V8 engine and features like a heavy-duty TripleTech™ frame, the Tundra can tow up to 10,100 pounds when properly equipped. Whether you need to tow hay bales or move a speedboat out to open water for the weekend, it can get the job done.
Aiding it in that mission is the standard Trailer Sway Control feature, which detects trailer sway and applies brake pressure to individual wheels to help maintain stability. The available Integrated Trailer Brake Controller has a role to play, too: It lets you alter the amount of trailer braking based on the weight of the trailer for more control.
