The 2022 Toyota Tundra received an extensive redesign, adding new interior and exterior styling, more powertrain choices, and upgraded towing capacity. The full-size pickup truck is available in several trims, from the sturdy SR base trim to the luxuriously equipped and appropriately named Capstone. In the middle, Toyota offers the Tundra in the popular Limited, well-equipped Platinum, and off-road-ready TRD-Pro trims.

What’s Under the Hood

Toyota puts a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with a 10-speed automatic transmission in all trims. With this engine, the Toyota Tundra performance achieves 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque with a 6.1-second zero-to-60 MPH time.

Drivers who want more power and better fuel efficiency can choose the optional hybrid powertrain. Toyota adds an electric motor to the V6 engine providing all-electric driving at low speeds and an impressive 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. With the hybrid powertrain, the Tundra reaches 60 MPH in 5.7 seconds.

The upgraded Tundra has a coil-spring rear suspension, giving the full-size truck a comfortable and refined ride. But don’t worry, the TRD-Pro still has the lifted off-road suspension with skid plates, Fox shocks, adaptive dampers, and all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels.

Drivers can configure their Tundra trucks to fit their needs. The best Toyota Tundra towing capacity comes with the Double Cab, 6.5-foot bed, the V6, and rear-wheel drive. This model can tow 12,000 pounds. The four-wheel drive models outfitted with the CrewMax cab and hybrid powertrain tow at least 8,300 pounds. The SR is only available with a Double Cab, while other trim levels offer both or only the CrewMax Cab.

Performance-Enhancing Technology

All Tundra models come with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 features that include a Rear View Camera, Forward Collision Warning, Pedestrian Detection, Forward Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition.

The Tundra Limited trim has additional safety features like Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. This trim also includes a 14.0-inch touchscreen, while the lower-grade trims have an 8.0-inch model. Regardless of the screen size, the audio multimedia system has Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, several USB ports, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and at least six speakers.

The Toyota Tundra interior on the Limited trim has synthetic leather upholstery with heated, ventilated, and power-adjustable front seats. It also has a heated steering wheel. The Platinum trim adds leather upholstery, heated and cooled rear seats, a panoramic moonroof, and a 12-speaker JBL audio system.
